Wedding Expenses You Can Write-Off on Your Taxes

Weddings can be expensive, but if you've decided against eloping, there are ways to save some extra money down the road. Here are a few wedding-related expenses that may be tax-deductible if turned into charitable donations:
Florals
Your centerpieces, altar arrangements, arch, or bud vases can all be donated to charity at the end of your wedding for a tax write-off. You can easily assign someone to lead this task during break-down, or allow Repeat Roses to help you with this process.
Food
Don't want leftover food from your wedding to go to waste? Consider donating it to a local homeless shelter instead. Many non-profits provide donation receipts, which you can use to claim a charitable deduction on your wedding expenses.
Decor
After your wedding, consider donating decorations like candles, linens, and more to Goodwill or other charity stores. Don’t forget to request a receipt so you can itemize your donation!
Wedding Dress
If you’re only wearing your wedding dress once, and don't want to save it (due to lack of space, etc.) why not give it a second life? Donate it to Goodwill, The Salvation Army, or organizations like Brides Against Breast Cancer. Many of these groups provide receipts, allowing you to claim a tax deduction. This also goes for bridesmaid + groomsmen attire as well!
Venue
If your venue is a charitable organization, you may be able to deduct part of the cost. Museums, gardens, and parks often qualify if fees support preservation—check with the venue when booking ;)
Church
If you have your wedding at a church, any additional donations beyond the ceremony fee may be tax-deductible, as long as they are given without expecting a service in return.
We hope this list can give you a good starting point for potential $$$ to be saved. However, it's best to work with a tax professional to ensure your itemized charitable deductions are filed properly.
